Who are you?

I’m a 34 year old mother of a 12 year old daughter and 13 year old son … yikes … and while I am a single mom, they’ve got a wonderful father who is quite active in their lives … because real life is not always a Jerry Springer/Maury special. I’ve got an amazing manfriend (because I feel too old to still be saying “boyfriend”) that I wouldn’t trade for all the bottomless mimosas at brunch. By day, I work in an IT department doing Accounting … there’s a smidge of IT mixed into my work as well, so I’m not a complete random placement in the department … by night, weekend, and every other “free” time I’ve got, I balance work on Social Media Management for others, The House of Dumas, being a mom, and a womanfriend (because, again, I think I missed the girlfriend boot a decade ago … certainly by the time I hopped into my 30s).

What is The House of Dumas?

Documentation of my life as a mom, an entrepreneur, and a human … because did you exist if no one was there to read about it? Honestly, I have horrible memory issues and I wanted something for myself and, more importantly, my kids to be able to look back on, to remember things we did, places we went, time we spent together. The kids and I watched a video on my mother’s phone just last week and it took all I had to hold back an ocean of tears listening to their 1st and 3rd grade voices, compared to their, current, 6th and 8th grade ones … where has the time gone?!?! Hopefully, looking back on this blog will do that for us in a few more years.

How did you start your blog?

I actually started a, now defunct, blog 4 years ago where I blogged about children’s parties. I wanted to have something that gave me a creative outlet, but also allowed me to involve my own children. There were a few blogs I loved to follow on the regular and thought, “I can do that too”, but for one reason or another, I didn’t devote as much time to it as I should have. More recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I really wish I had made something of it and finally I decided there’s no better time like the present. I’m not completely sure what I’m doing, but nonetheless, I’ll be sharing my life as I figure it out … figure out the blog and life with raising 2 tween/teenagers that is … and I’m excited about watching the evolution of them both.

Who does your photography?

I imagine I will take a good portion of them, or enlist the assistance of my daughter, my mother, a willing participant, but through the power of networking, I’ve found some great lifestyle photographers. My primary photographer, Paige Winn of Paige Winn Photo, I lucked upon while following one of my favorite Charlotte bloggers, The Cheeky Been.

I’m so excited about this journey and the relationships I’ve already started to form. I’d love for you to reach out and tell me more about yourself!
